Your True Reflection

Patients at the Nutrition Center of Morristown who begin work on Step 1 of the Metabolism Miracle return for their first follow- up visit after 8 weeks.  When the door to my office swings open, I’m often taken aback by how terrific my patient looks.  Women and men return looking so much brighter, healthier, less bloated, and inches smaller.  Although they relate that friends, family, and coworkers tell them how wonderful they look, they themselves can’t seem to “see it” in the mirror.

I have worked in weight reduction for many ,many (did I mention many???) years.  I have come to understand that although a person looks at their reflection in the mirror several times every day, what they see is often clouded by a distorted mental image of his or her body.  They may have lost 13 pounds and 14 inches and look absolutely radiant, but the person staring back in the mirror looks just about the same to them.  They hear and acknowledge that other people say nice things, but on some level they don’t really  believe them.

There is a great solution to this “problem”. If you have not started the MM program yet, take a picture of yourself now.  Choose a simple fitted outfit because you will wear the same outfit in the pictures you will snap at 8 week intervals thereafter. If you have already been on the program and did not take a picture at the beginning of your journey, look at a photo from a year ago and hold it next to a photo of you now. Really look at it. Notice all of the positive and amazing changes that your body has undergone.

I recommend that as you watch your progression unfold in objective pictures, you literally say to yourself…this is how I looked 24 weeks ago, 16 weeks ago, 8 weeks ago, and NOW!  Really look at your image and understand that this is what you really look like now, and give yourself a big hug for how far you have come. You are thinner, lighter, and more radiant. Tell yourself this every day. Remind yourself that you have made a difference in your life, and this has made a difference in your body. You are not the same person you were 8, 16, 24, or 32 weeks ago.

You can do the same thing with your lab work.  Look at your labs from before the program and compare them to your labs as your life progresses on MM.  You are responsible for that….YOU are!

Take a peek at the personal symptoms of MM and remember what you felt like before you began this lifestyle. Remember the fatigue, irritability, depression, cravings, anxiety, inability to focus, brain fog, blurry vision, dizziness, problems sleeping….and really realize how much better you feel.

Embrace the new you, love yourself for what you have accomplished and for what you will continue to do for your health and well-being.  Really start to see your true reflection.
