2013 “Today’s Dietitian” Magazine Top 10 Dietitian of the Year

I’m Diane Kress, RD CDE, a Registered Dietitian, Certified Diabetes Educator, NY Times Best Selling author and person with type 2 diabetes. I have over 30 years experience in medical nutrition therapy specializing in metabolic syndrome, overweight/obesity, pre diabetes, and type 2 diabetes.

In 2013, I was named as one of the Top 10 Registered Dietitians of the Year in “Today’s Dietitian Magazine“! I own/direct a private practice, The Nutrition Center of Morristown in Morristown, NJ.  I spend my time between NJ and Florida, am married and have two children.  I enjoy reading, bicycling, walking, all kinds of music, spending time with family, anything and everything to do with the beach, and finding joy in every day.

I am the author of the New York Times Bestseller: The Metabolism Miracle, The Metabolism Miracle Cookbook, and The Diabetes Miracle. My books are also best sellers in the US, UK, Canada, South Africa, Australia, Ireland, Spain, China.  The Metabolism Miracle is licensed for publication in 8 languages.

The Miracle series are revolutionary lifestyle programs that enable permanent weight loss, improved cholesterol, triglycerides, hypertension, blood sugar, and energy in people with the genetic predisposition toward metabolic syndrome. Over 55% of overweight people have the genes for “Metabolism B” and unknowingly over-release the fat gain hormone; insulin. Their  overweight weight and weight related health conditions are the result of imbalanced insulin and insulin resistance.

Met B is progressive unless treated with lifestyle modification. Traditional weight loss diets do not work.  Weight loss and improved energy and health cannot be achieved on calorie restricted diets.  The program has 3 Steps: 8 weeks to rest and rehab the pancreas/liver combination, 8+ weeks to reprogram the pancreas to work normally, and a maintenance Step featuring a lifestyle that enables one to maintain new found desired weight and improved health for a lifetime.

    Diane,
Please write a blog here on preconception, pregnancy and breastfeeding.
How many carb servings for each stage, how to deal with nausea, and do we increase or decrease carb servings for breastfeeding.(I was always confused on that one)
What about immediately after delivery when your body is in a transition stage?
I have always craved comfort warm foods at that time.
I also want to thankyou for your excellent plan.recently due to an unexpected family event ,I had to go off the diet for couple of weeks (to a vegetarian high carb diet),and was surprised I didn’t gain a lot, only a few pounds(versus before that would have been more than 10-20 lbs).My pnacreas seems to have really rested.
Looking eagerly for a detailed blog on pregnancy-a very important part of life for a woman, and especially challenging for a woman with met B. I gained 60 pounds on my last pregnancy, though I was nuaseted all the time, now I know what was the reason behind it and not just me with uncontrollable appetite. Thanks a lot

There is much detail needed to address a lifestyle program for pregnant/nursing women…..way to much to address in a blog. I will be writing a book in the MM series on pregnancy/lactation for women with MM!

  2. Would like more information about the book & where I may purchase in Mauritius

Diane, I would like to arrange a phone consultation with you. I don’t know if you usually do this, but I am extremely interested. Can you send me a fee schedule and possible times we might connect.

    Thank you

I really wish there was a version of this book in Portuguese. I am from Brazil. My cousin, who studied nutrition back in brazil in the 90’s has followed your work since she was in school. Now residing in the US, she started the metabolism miracle diet and I was so impressed with the results that decided to try it myself. I had been known for not even trying diets before because I couldn’t go without my sweets. So, the fact that I was able to do it has made many people ask me what I did. And I rave about it the book to everyone. Also, I work at a dental office and I always mention it to all my sleep apnea patients. My family and friends in Brazil are dying to try the diet but they don’t speak English. It would be awesome if it was available in portuguese. Talking to my cousin, we thought that, perhaps, she would be qualified to translate the book with you. She has a degree in nutrition, plus she is a registered court interpreter and her husband is a Master court interpreter.
So, what do you think? 😉

THANK YOU FOR THE BOOK and for your attention!

    Sincerely,

    Raquel Prado

I was shocked to see you live right here in my hometown. I am 52 and am definitely in peri menopause, approaching Menopause. For the last several years, I have tried everything to help lose weight with little success.I am completely frustrated and discouraged. I am at least 20 to 25 lbs overweight but If I don’t stop it now, I’m afraid what will happen as I age. I considered going to a nutritionist because I need the accountability.I must have every Healthy Eating Guide or book out there and I read a lot but find a lot of contradictions and difficulty navigating through it all. Having fallen upon this website, I am tempted to purchase your book and try once again.I guess if I run into trouble, I know where to find you. Thanks!

I apologize now that my question doesn’t really apply to the current blog post, but I wanted to ask a question. I just got my hands on your book and started TODAY! Measurements are taken, book is read, and positive phrases are being said in hopes of turning around the negative self esteem.

My question is this….what are your thoughts about Almond Flour? I see that many of your recipes are using Soy Flour, but my husband and I have been watching carbs the best we knew how for a while now (though he has had fantastic success – Metabolism A – and I have had VERY LITTLE – Metabolism B!) and we have been using almond flour in our recipes. We LOVE it! Could we substitute the almond flour for the soy flour in your recipes? Based on what I have read, and since nuts are okay in all three steps of the Metabolism Miracle, I am assuming it would be okay? (The almond meal we use is simply finely ground almonds – no additives)

I cannot wait to see what wonderful ways this program is going to help me! I am 35, diabetic (though not severe), obese (I hate that word!) and post-menopausal because of ovarian cancer (January 2012 I celebrated 10 years CANCER FREE!!). I feel like God is using your book/plan to bless me at a time when I wondered if anything would ever work!

Thank you, thank you! Can’t wait to be a MIRACLE!

    • Diane Kress says:

      Hi Anne,
Congratulations on your very important anniversary. I wonder if you know that ovarian cancer is related to uncontrolled Metabolism B. As is type 2 diabetes and your weight. You will feel wonderful and get and maintain great health with this program. Yes, almond flour can be used. You can join us on http://www.miracle-ville.com. It is the online support group for Metabolism Miracle and Diabetes Miracle. There are lots of recipes there (with almond flour), tips, 24/7 chat, video blogs (I answer questions from members), Forums for each Step, and I personally answer all questions…even personal ones….smiling. Wishing you Miracles, Diane

I just started the diet a week ago, and I just found out I’m pregnant, can I continue ?

    • Diane Kress says:

First: congratulations on your pregnancy. Second: Metabolism Miracle is not a program for pregnancy or lactation. If you would like, I can configure a pregnancy/lactation program for you (an individualized program) that would meet the needs of the baby and you but keep blood sugar/insulin in balance so you end the pregnancy in good shape. After the baby’s birth and after breast feeding (if you decide to breast feed) you can restart on MM. If you are interested, you can order the individualized program on the “Extras” tab on http://www.themetabolismmiracle.com or http://www.miracle-ville.com. wishing you the best in your pregnancy! Diane

  9. Claudia says:

    Hi Diane,

I am currently reading your book and am planning on starting the MM diet this week. But I do have a question. In my religion we fast 1 Sunday every month. From what I understand with your program I shouldn’t go past 5 hours without eating. Have you ever encountered this before and what would you recommend??

    • Diane Kress says:

Hi Claudia. On Step 1 of the program, you will have no problems with the fast day. On Step 2, you are allowed “2 slip ups” in a week…this refers to 2 five hour blocks. So, an entire day without hitting carb targets makes for over and above 2 five hour blocks. This means that you weight loss on Step 2 will be slower. Your 4 week month will have the impact of 2.5 weeks on the program when you get to Step 2.

      • Claudia says:

        Diane,

Thank you so much for the reply. I am currently on day 2 of the MM and I am excited to see the results. I appreciate the time you take , not only to write the book, but to communicate with people and help them out.
