I have been unable to comment on this article on Medpagetoday.com, so I am going to opine here.

This article comes from “Culinary Rx”…MD’s are giving their opinion on diet/lifestyle changes to help a male with hypertension.  The only information this entire article was based on was hypertension, waist circumference, and BMI.

I am a medical nutrition therapist, an RD with over 34 years’ experience specializing in individuating a person’s diet and lifestyle to treat their medical conditions with much less medication, and a certified diabetes educator.  I am also the developer of The Metabolism Miracle and The Diabetes Miracle, NY Times Bestselling books and the most effective medical nutrition therapy that matches the underlying medical conditions of over 65% of the adult US population.

The problem with the MD’s opinions is that they are not based on all the information needed to choose a diet/lifestyle that will help this patient.

These are the tests that must be done to decide on medical nutrition therapy:

Height and weight

Body Fat Percentage

Fasting labwork that includes:

Glucose (note if over 85mg/dl)

LDL cholesterol (note if over 99mg/dL)

HDL cholesterol (note if under 45mg/dL)

Triglycerides (note if over 99mg/dL)

Hemoglobin A1C (note if under 5.3 OR over 5.6)

Vitamin D (note if under 40)

TSH (note if over 3.9)

Fasting insulin (note if 8 or higher)

Blood pressure (note if over 135/85)

Waist circumference

Subjective symptoms including:  fatigue after meals, belly fat increasing, waking up tired, inability to lose weight on “tried and true” diets, difficulty falling or staying asleep, irritability, mild depression, craving carbohydrate foods, occasional dizziness, sensitivity to light, caffeine has less impact, alcohol consumption has greater impact, often feel hungry and “empty” as soon as 1 hour after a meal.

If most lab work, blood pressure, and subjective symptoms are answered YES….the correct medical nutrition therapy is The Metabolism Miracle or The Diabetes Miracle by Diane Kress, RD.CDE

This medical nutrition therapy is meticulously developed to normalize all the medical conditions linked to the genes and progression of Metabolic Syndrome.

The Metabolism Miracle and The Diabetes Miracle will bring labs, blood pressure, and symptoms under control in as little as 8 weeks.  Living the Metabolism Miracle or Diabetes Miracle lifestyle will maintain your results for a lifetime.
