Diane Kress’ “50 SHADES OF SNACKS” Fit The Metabolism Miracle!

Inspired by Keri Gan’s article in Woman’s Day regarding fifty 50 calorie snacks, I decided to convert these snacks to fit the Metabolism Miracle lifestyle. For over 60% of the population, losing weight is not about the calories, it’s about the carbohydrates! The Metabolism Miracle has 3 steps to rest and rehab (Step 1), reset (Step 2) , and retain normal metabolism (Step 3).  Take a look at how these snacks fit the program!

Satisfy your sweet tooth

  1. 1  apple (4 ounces), baked, topped with 2 Tbsp Greek yogurt  and sprinkled with cinnamon and Stevia = 11-20 gram Carb Dam for Steps 2 and 3
  2. 1⁄2 small banana, frozen = 11-20 gram Carb Dam for Steps 2 and 3
  3. 1/2 cup natural applesauce sprinkled with cinnamon = 11-20 gram Carb Dam for Steps 2 and 3
  4. 1 miniature box of raisins = 11-20 gram Carb Dam for Steps 2 and 3
  5.  1 sugar free Popsicle ice pop = 5 gram Carb Counter for Step 1
  6. 1 Fudgsicle™ no sugar added popsicle= 11-20 gram Carb Dam for Steps 2 and 3
  7. 12 cherries = 11-20 gram Carb Dam for Steps 2 and 3
  8. 1 individual serving sugar-free gelatin with whipped cream = neutral on all Steps
  9. 6 strawberries dipped into  2 Tbsp lite flavored yogurt = 11-20 gram Carb Dam for Steps 2 and 3
  10. 15 seedless red grapes, frozen = 11-20 gram Carb Dam for Steps 2 and 3

Indulge a salt craving

  1. 1 cup popcorn = 5 gram Counter Carb while 3 cups popcorn = 11-20 gram Carb Dam for Steps 2 and 3.
  2.  1 cup shelled edamame with sea salt = neutral on all Steps
  3.  8 oz miso soup= 5 gram Counter Carb on Step 1
  4.  3 whole grain pretzel rods = 11-20 gram Carb Dam for Steps 2 and 3
  5.  1.3 ounce bag of Glenny’s lightly salted soy crisps = 11-20 grams Carb Dam for Steps 2 and 3
  6.  1 medium sliced cucumber mixed with 1⁄4 cup sliced onion, 1⁄2 cup chopped celery, 4 Tbsp balsamic vinegar and salt to taste= neutral on all Steps
  7.  4 oz V8-vegetable juice = neutral on all Steps
  8. e1 kosher dill pickle = neutral on all Steps

Crunch and munch

  1. 1/2 cup sliced jicama with salsa = neutral on all Steps
    20. 1 cup sugar snap peas = neutral on all Steps
    21. Small celery stalk smeared with natural peanut butter= neutral on all Steps
    22. 4 ounce apple with 1 tsp soy butter = 11-20 gram Carb Dam on Steps 2 and 3
    23. ½ brown rice cake with 1 tsp sugar-free jam 5 gram Carb Counter on Step 1

Smooth and creamy

  1. 1 Laughing Cow Light Garlic & Herb wedge spread on cucumber slices =neutral on all Steps
  2.  Natural almond butter on celery sticks= neutral on all Steps
  3. 1⁄2 cup fat-free Greek yogurt with 1 tsp sugar-free strawberry jam = 5 gram Counter Carb on Step 1
  4.  1 oz avocado (about 1⁄8 of an avocado) spritzed with lime = neutral on all Steps
  5. 6 grape tomatoes dipped  light cream cheese =neutral on all Steps

Cheesy whizzes

  1. 6 pieces of endive filled with reduced-fat feta cheese = neutral on all Steps
  2. 1 slice provolone cheese = neutral on all Steps
  3. 1 tomato, sliced, topped with 1 Tbsp Parmesan, broiled = neutral on all Steps
  4.  ½ cup low fat cottage cheese = neutral on all Steps
  5. 1 oz low fat mozzarella dipped in warm marinara sauce = neutral on all Steps

Power up on protein

  1. Turkey rollups: 2 slices white meat turkey rolled in 2 lettuce leaves = neutral on all Steps
  2. Smoked salmon on 5 Wheat Thins crackers = 5 gram Counter Carb on Step 1
  3. 1 tofu dog with 1 Tbsp sauerkraut = neutral on all Steps
  4.  1⁄2 cup plain Greek yogurt sprinkled with 1 tsp sunflower seeds = 5 gram Counter Carb on Step 1
  5. Tuna  with 1 tsp Dijon mustard and light mayo = neutral on all Steps
  6.  1 chopped hard-cooked egg mixed with light mayo over with 1 cup sliced cucumber = neutral on all Steps
  7. 1 slice Wasa Fibre Crispbread with cheese = 5 gram Counter Carb on Step 1
  8. 1 EAS protein shake = 5 gram Counter Carb on Step 1

Solid standbys

  1. 1 cup melon with 2 Tbsp 1% cottage cheese = 11-20 grams Carb Dam on Steps 2 and 3
  2.  1⁄2 small grapefruit = 11-20 grams Carb Dam on Steps 2 and 3
  3. 3/4 cup blueberries with 1 Tbsp light sour cream = 11-20 gram Carb Dam on Steps 2 and 3
  4. 1⁄2 cup carrots with 1 Tbsp light ranch dressing = 5 gram Counter Carb on Step 1

Thirst quenchers

  1. 1 cup nonfat milk with 1 Tbsp Walden Farms calorie-free chocolate syrup = 11-20 gram Carb Dam on Steps 2 and 3
  2. ½ packet of sugar-free hot chocolate made with ¾ cup unsweetened almond milk and topped with whipped cream = 5 gram Counter Carb on Step 1
  3. 1 unsweetened vanilla flavored almond milk = neutral on Step 1
  4.  Seltzer with 1⁄2 cup DIET cranberry juice and a lime wedge = neutral on all Steps
  5. Homemade iced green tea (with Stevia or Splenda if desired) and a lemon slice = neutral on all Steps
